Yesterday I was thinking about the parallels between Calypso and Circe (since they are the two goddesses/witches that held Odysseus captive in the Odyssey) and how that might extend to Reyna. I’m sure it’s not going to be explored in canon and I’m probably reading too much into it, but I just find it really interesting that both Reyna and Calypso are people from Percy’s past (specifically from the first series), that he met both on islands, and that he screwed both of them over. And then their characterization is revealed from their reactions to it, in that Calypso curses him and Reyna doesn’t.
Not that I blame Calypso, because it’s completely understandable she’d be really upset. Reyna ultimately ends up better from her initial encounter with Percy. Calypso ends up worse off. (Which is not unlike the Odyssey. Odysseus leaves on better terms with Circe than with Calypso.) It’s just something interesting I’ve been thinking about, especially considering it’s Reyna—of all characters—that Calypso directs her jealousy towards in Leo’s later HoH chapters. (Not Clarisse, for example, even though she was shown in the mirror too.) Dunno if Rick is planning something with all of this, but yeah…I feel like it’d be a shame if it didn’t turn out to be a cool plot point instead of just a series of coincidences. (And like, Percy’s character arc in HoO is about him having to face the consequences of his past actions, and it’s illustrated not only through Calypso and Reyna, but through Nico and Bob as well. I’m just really interested to see how this is going to conclude. Okay right back to finals.)
I LOVE HOW EREn’S JUST LIKE “u know what. youre too dumb for this. and im too dumb for this. u know who’s not dumb? armin. lemme go get armin.”
I also drew a Kenny! Angel!
Let’s just take a second to appreciate that Loki fights like his mum.
And that’s awesome.
